Right, where do I start? The purpose of this post is to get me on the right track- the road to a ripped and built physique. To make a long story short, I am very underweight and not for health reasons but for myself, I need to put on weight. The thing is I am so terrified of putting on fat- I have put on weight recently but it's all going to my legs and I;m not seeing any muscle develop, just fat.

I am at a loss of what to do - I train very hard, following a fourday split : chest/tris, back/bi, legs, shoulders/abs. Although last week I jsut changed over to the "13 week fat burning workout". I never used to do cardio because I have to put on weight put recently I just began to hate the way I look and decided to start 3 x 40min sessions a week.

My diet is very clean - I eat every two hours focusing mainly on protein (lots of it) and moderate carbs. Sat. fats to a minimum, supplementing with flaxseed oil. I just don't understand why I seem to be putting on fat and not muscle. It is really discouraging because I know exactly how I want to look- none of this skinny business, I want to get rippped and have a Susie Curry type build.

I know this is a long post but at the moment I am at the end of my line and I don't know where to go. I am very dispondent about my training etc. because it doesn't seem to be doing anything beneficial.(I've been training for a year and a half and have hardly anything t show off) Most ladies are trying to loose weight, I want to put on but the fact of fat is stopping me.

please ladies if any of you have some advice for me or first hand experience etc.(how long will it take anyway?), I really really need it, none of this wishy-washy stuff anymore, I;m reading for a hard core change!

Thanks for reading this

Michelle

(If you'd like more info I'd be glad to post I just don't want to waffle on too much!)

Weight: 103lbs
height: 5'8
Bodyfat: Weird thing this - one biokinetist measured with callipers = 20% (!) last week and a new doctor today measured 11% with electrodes. I don't know which one is the more accurate.

Okay, the best way I'll be able to help you is to get down to the nitty gritty. You can either post it here or start a journal in the Online Journal forum, which is probably better so others can learn from you, and I'll need you to post EXACTLY what you're eating at what times, and in addition, post your calorie and macronutrient breakdown. Also post EXACTLY how you are training, what exercises you're doing, what order, how many sets and reps, and if you're training to failure on those sets. This way I may be able to spot some things you're doing wrong and we can go from there.

If however, everything is right on, or if after the changes are made and you don't see progress in a reasonable time, then I would have to suggest you get some blood tests done, like have your thyroid checked and your testosterone level checked. It could very well be that there is some sort of physical problem. Cause anyone who eats correctly, eats enough, and lifts weights, SHOULD indeed gain both strength AND size, and ESPECIALLY someone who is UNDERWEIGHT as you are. Okay? Don't worry, we'll figure it out. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/happy/wink.gif

Thanks Krypto,

I did inteed have blood tests done a few months ago- my thyroid is fine but my hormones are non existant. (I haven't had a period since last year May) My testosterone level was so depressed they found it hard to actually get a reading! I don't know what to do about it- the doctors say that when I return to a normal body weight my hormones will regulate themselves. I realise this but its getting to a normal weight and THEN having to start training that isn't so inspiring- I am very impateint (i know its bad but thats how I am)and to think that it will take me double if not triple, as long to get the body i want...

As for the journal thing I have been meaning to strat mine just haven't had the time the past few days, I will start today though!

Thanks again

That doesn't surprise me at all, it's what I suspected especially after reading your diet & training, you SHOULD be gaining muscle.

Sounds like a "catch 22" to me.

I understand completely, I'd feel the same way if it were me!

I would think that if your hormone levels are that messed up and your testosterone level being that low, that your doctor would put you on some kind of hormone replacement therapy, at least til you get your weight up. Is that not possible? If it were me, I'd ask my doctor about it. If my test levels were abnormally low, I'd be screaming give me STEROIDS! IMO, a medical condition warrants it! Cause like I said, if we can't find any way to improve your muscle gaining capability thru your diet & training, then I wouldn't know what else to do!
