Hey everyone,
I'm 15 years old, 175 at 6'3". My parents are concerned about my weight because I have dropped 22 pounds of fat over the summer months, and now i'm getting skinny. I have begun to work out 3/4 times a week to bulk up. I'm aiming at 185-190 lbs. Is whey a good choice for me to add size. I don't like to take supplements, are wheys risky to my health? Do they have side affects? How do they work for you?
Thanks

Well whey is basically fuel for your muscles. When you work out, your muscles need a lot of protein to rebuild themselves bigger and stronger(recover). When you consume, for example 100% ion exchanged whey protein shake your body will be able to absorb almost all of it, thats because this is the best quality protein, your body can absorb so much of differnet protein sources, for example your body can absorb 97% of the protien in eggs, on the other hand your body can only absorb 60% of the protien from soy) . Also remeber to drink a lot of water and you need 1-1.5 grams of protien for every lb. I would space it out on six meals a day. Good luck.
About side effects, NONE thats why millions of people out there are willing to take one and only one supplment which is protein, because they feel unsafe using other supplments. And yes its fine to take whey in your age.

Whey is protein just like you get from eating any meat, fish, eggs, etc. Your muscles will not grow if you do not get enough protein. For your weight, I'd shoot for 260-270 grams per day, not just from whey+

Thanks for the info.
Any specific type of whey do you recommend?

Right now, I would go with any 100% Whey Protein. Try Optimum Nutrition, Prolab, ISS Research, or any other type. 100% Whey is the cheapest and may possibly be the best for putting on mass. Try pretty much any brand you would like.

What if your not looking to bulk up? 1 gram per pound too much? Does the amount vary for women and men or is the variation just determined by your present weight and goals?
